The Wrong AI Question Everyone Is Asking

A few days ago, I was talking with our team and sharing a story from the early days of the automobile. In 1900, there were over 1,000 car companies in Detroit. Today, almost nobody can name more than a handful.

When a new technology appears, everybody rushes in. Everybody builds something. Everybody claims they are the future.

Most disappear. A few survive.

The mistake people make during periods of change is focusing on the technology instead of the problem. The winners rarely start with, “What tool should I use?”

They start with, “What problem am I trying to solve?”

I see brokers do this all the time. With AI. With CRMs. With social media. With marketing. With hiring.

They ask which software to buy. Which platform to use. Which tool is best.

But those questions come too early.

Because if you do not know the problem, every tool looks interesting. If you know the problem, the right tool becomes much easier to find.

That is the better place to start.

What is frustrating me? What is repetitive? What is consuming too much time? What is slowing down my business?

Get crystal clear on the problem. Then go looking for solutions.

Because clarity beats tools. Every time.

PS: Speaking of AI, one reason I’m hosting an AI Tech Fair next week is because I keep hearing brokers say, “I don’t know which tools are actually worth it.”

Fair enough. There are a lot of them.

So I’ve invited some of the companies building AI-powered tools for mortgage brokers and given each of them 5 minutes to show what they’ve got. No long presentations. No hype.

Just a chance to see what’s out there and decide for yourself.
