Who, Not How

A few weeks ago, one of our agents, Jenn, ran into a problem.
Her client’s mother was in BC, and they needed help with a title issue.
Jenn is in Nova Scotia, her local lawyer could not pull it, and she did not have access.
She could have spent the next hour trying to figure out how to solve it.
Instead, she knew who to call.
Taylor.
A broker she had met at one of our events in BC.
Jenn reached out.
About 15 minutes later, she was back on track.
Here is the part I love.
Jenn did not meet Taylor because she needed something from him.
She had no idea this problem was coming.
She met him before she needed him.
That is what I have been thinking about lately.
I have spent a lot of my career asking,
“How do I grow?”
“How do I solve this?”
“How do I get better?”
But eventually, how can become a bottleneck.
The answer cannot always be me learning one more thing.
Sometimes you need the right people around you.
That was part of what bringing Dustan into BRX was about for me.
And it is one of the reasons I like seeing brokers build relationships at Broker Talks.
You meet someone who has already solved the problem you are stuck on.
Someone who knows a lender you do not.
Someone who is a few steps ahead of you.
Or someone on the other side of the country who can solve your problem in 15 minutes.
That is a big part of what Broker Talks is designed to create.
Not just speakers.
Not just ideas.
Relationships that become useful long after the event is over.
The archive has always treated those conversations as a core part of Broker Talks.
I have written that some of my best ideas come from conversations with colleagues between sessions, not just from the speakers themselves.
This October, we will be in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.
October 14, 16 and 20.
If you want to join us, use code ILMB for 25% off your ticket.
But whether you come or not, try this.
The next time you catch yourself asking,
“How am I going to do this?”
Ask one more question.
Who might already know?
