The Calendar Never Lies

When someone says they feel overwhelmed, it is tempting to assume they simply have too much to do.

Sometimes that is true.

But often, their calendar is reflecting priorities they never intentionally chose.

Years ago, I started building what I call my Ideal Work Week.

At first, I thought it was about becoming more organized.

It was not.

It was about deciding what deserved a place in my life before everything else tried to take its place.

Work.

Thinking time.

Prospecting.

Time with my family.

Working out.

Recovery.

If something is important, it belongs on the calendar.

One of my favorite ideas comes from Denise Laframboise.

She says, “It can be moved, but never deleted.”

I love that.

Life happens.

Meetings move.

Things come up.

But the important things still happen.

Because if they are not protected, they slowly disappear.

I have learned something else over the years.

If it is not in your calendar, it probably is not a priority.

Not because you do not care.

Because the urgent will always crowd out the important.

So open next week’s calendar and take a look.

Does it reflect the life and business you are trying to build?

Or the one that is simply happening to you?

Your calendar never lies.
