It's Different When You Know Who to Call

There is a big difference between knowing someone’s name and actually knowing them.

A lender BDM can be a name in your inbox.

A phone number.

Someone you have heard speak on a call.

Then you sit across from them at an event.

You talk about a deal.

Maybe you talk about your kids.

Maybe you laugh about something that has absolutely nothing to do with mortgages.

And now they are not just a name in your inbox.

They are Mike.

Three months later, a strange file lands on your desk.

Calling Mike feels a whole lot easier than “contacting the lender.”

I was reminded of this recently when we received a note from one of our BRX agents.

They told us that meeting lender BDMs face to face at our events had made a real difference in their business.

They had built relationships with people at different lenders and felt more comfortable reaching out when they had a deal scenario, a question about a file, or simply needed some guidance.

I loved that.

Because this is exactly why getting people in the same room matters.

It is not about collecting business cards.

It is not about adding 17 people on LinkedIn before you leave.

It is about making it easier to pick up the phone later.

That is one of the reasons we designed Broker Talks the way we did.

This October, we are bringing brokers and lenders together in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Yes, there are speakers.

Yes, you will leave with ideas you can use in your business.

But there is a reason you will not spend the entire day sitting silently in rows.

You talk.

You mastermind.

You meet lenders and other brokers.

Because sometimes the conversation beside you is just as valuable as the one happening at the front of the room.

And whether you are coming to Broker Talks or not, there is something worth trying.

Think about one person in this industry you would like to know better.

A lender.

Another broker.

Someone doing something you want to understand.

Do not wait until you need something from them.

Go introduce yourself first.

You never know which conversation will make the next one easier.
